Tennis

Lessons, Achievements & Accolades

There’s 2 reasons why people do things… fun and learning! I was late to the game having played Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey throughout my youth. That being said, I’ve worked with some of the best tennis teachers anyone could imagine. Scott Nichol taught me how to play and teach when I was 22 years old. His philosophy and drills have stayed with me through the years. Julian Krinsky and Adrian Castelli became mentors when I first went into business. They taught me the ins and outs of running a tennis club. I coached David DiLucia at Malvern Preparatory School when I was 26 years old. He went on to Notre Dame bringing their team to National prominence, and later played on the pro tour. I call him the Sherlock Holmes of tennis, a cross between Mr. Rogers and Willy Wonka. He was brilliant, using every psychological tactic to teach both adults and juniors. I worked sided by side with him for 5 years and learned so much. Emilio Sanchez later influenced my teaching with his sense of humor and work ethic. He’s a kindred spirit and I always smile when I see him!

My playing inspirations include Big Bill Tilden, the first great tennis player and author of “Match Play and the Spin of the Ball”, widely recognized as the Holy Book of Tennis. Then came Bjorn Borg, Ilie Nastase, Vitas Gerulaitis, John McEnroe, and Stefan Edberg. My favorite player of all time is Roger Federer! When I started out, tennis was a part-time job until I found a “real job”. Instead, I stayed with it for 40 years and I am still going strong. All I know is that my quality of life is better if I spend the day on a tennis court! I think I’ll stick with it… at least for this lifetime!
